Catholic Bishops say children entitled to a mother’s and father’s love
The New Zealand Catholic bishops are concerned that the current debate about whether the law should change to allow homosexual and de-facto couples to adopt children, focuses only on the rights of adults, with almost no reference to the rights of children.
Speaking on behalf of the bishops, Bishop Peter Cullinane of Palmerston North says that the Catholic Church wants to protect the rights of children.
“We accept the view held by many researchers, that a mother’s and a father’s love are different and complementary, and that a child has a right to both,” he says.
