Seeking Communications Advisor and Administrator

The New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference welcomes applications for two roles - a Communications Advisor and an Administrator.

Communications Adviser

 Applications are invited for the position of Communications Adviser for the NZ Catholic Bishops Conference.

 The Communications Adviser is pivotal in developing a team approach across the various communication functions in the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference structure. This is a wide-ranging role, involving an internal focus on communication with Catholics and an external focus which incorporates digital communications, secular and Catholic media engagement, and policy and advocacy support.

 The successful applicant will support the Catholic bishops in their communication strategy and engagement with the media. The role is expected to work closely with contractors to ensure that the Church communicates effectively across a range of platforms with good design. There are a range of exciting projects for you to own and develop.

The successful applicant has:

  • Demonstrated experience working in communications and media
  • A strong understanding of the Catholic faith and a commitment to supporting the Church’s mission in communications and public engagement
  • Experience coordinating media responses related to sensitive material and able to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Law, public policy, politics or other related fields 
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi
  • A demonstrated collaborative approach to work
  • High level attention to detail and well-developed writing skills
  • Knowledge and ability to support multi-cultural voices and to work with the variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds that make up the Church in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Experience working with confidential information in a sensitive and discreet manner

This role presently 32.5 hours per week, however this may be negotiable.

Administrator

Applications are invited for the position of Administrator for the NZ Catholic Bishops Conference.

  • Administrative support to our national office based in Wellington
  • Permanent position within a supportive, multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent role for those comfortable with digital media platforms
  • Part-time hours (20 hours minimum)
  • Contribute to the mission of the Catholic Church of Aotearoa New Zealand

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the NZCBC Secretariat with administrative tasks
  • Updating our website and social media
  • Supporting the production of resources and publications
  • Reviewing/proof-reading, collating and producing documents such as minutes, memos and media statements
  • Fostering positive working relationships and communicating clearly within the team and the wider network of NZCBC agencies and partners

The successful applicant will have:

  • High level of competence in computer and digital media platforms
  • Proven experience in a broad range of administrative duties
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Highly organised, excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi
  • A commitment to the vision, mission and values of the New Zealand Catholic Church
