Mass as usual for most Canterbury Catholic Churches

The earthquake which occurred in Canterbury early this morning has caused damage to some Catholic churches. Others have not been affected or have had statues and other items destroyed.

Christchurch Bishop Barry Jones suggests that Catholics attend Mass as usual, and if the Church is unable to be used parishioners will be directed to an alternative location, such as a school hall.

An exception is St Paul’s Parish in Dallington, which will not hold any Masses this weekend. The Church and school hall have been inspected and are not considered safe for use.

Updates will be available on the website of the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch.
